SPECIALTY FINISHES
VENETIAN PLASTER or Stucco Venetiano AKA Italian Plaster refers to a plaster material that is comprised of slaked limestone. It may contain marble dust or other natural materials. It is applied with a trowel in very thin layers giving a rich look with depth and movement. It is perfectly smooth to the touch, yet provides a beautiful visual texture. After burnishing, it can gleam with a high shine. Once completely dried, the plaster goes through carbonization process and becomes stone.
Amazingly this finish has the flexibility to marry well with nearly any design scheme from Old World Tuscan to ultra-modern and anywhere in between.
Venetian Plaster is not a faux finish. A faux finish is meant to mimic the look of another genuine finish. (Like Faux marbling or Faux wood grain or many faux finishes that are intended to give the look of Italian Plaster) Italian Plaster however is something truly special. It has a look that cannot be achieved with paint and glaze.
It is an Authentic Finish! And what is more it is very easy to and cost effective to repair. It resists mold, can be applied in a variety of settings (even inside a shower!) and is tinted the color of your selection.
HAND BRUSHED HIGH GLOSS – BRUSHED LAQUER – FRENCH POLISH
Brushed lacquered walls have been on the decorating scene for ages, but they’re white
hot these days. There’s something magnetic about that inimitable patent leather shine — it feels refined, classic, glamorous and unexpected all at once. It is a great way to ratchet up the drama and add another layer of depth to a space.
Composed of resin and solvents, lacquer has a unique property that yields its liquidlike sheen: Applying a fresh coat on top of one that has dried will dissolve the resin in the dry coat. Thus, the different coats melt into one another to create a flawless surface and a smooth gleam.
MARMORINO PLASTER
Marmorino contains natural limestone, powdered marble and fine sand. Applied thicker than Veneziano, it can be applied smooth or in a more textured fashion. Applied with subtle color variation, Marmorino is a very popular finish that can be applied with a relatively matte to low sheen depending on technique.
LIMEWASH is made from limestone that’s been crushed, burned, and mixed with water to make a lime putty. The putty is aged and then thinned with water and colored with natural pigments. Limewash creates surfaces that are mottled and matte with a chalky texture something like suede. It lends a depth and luminosity to flat walls.
TADELAKT
Tadelakt is a waterproof, decorative lime plaster. The lime used in tadelakt is antibacterial, hypoallergenic, and regulates moisture very well. Tadelakt is environmentally friendly. Traditional lime plaster does not have any toxic compounds. It absorbs carbon dioxide from the air and the plaster is also 100% recyclable.
